In this memoir, Cecily Watson Kelln leaves the comforts of her childhood “Cackleberry Farm” to face womanhood and adventures as she searches for love and security. Faced with divorce, rejection and despair, it is her mother’s exemplary Christian faith that keeps her hopeful about life. This is a true story which takes the reader through many exotic experiences, such as two years in Peru with the Peace Corps, a cold winter in a tent, and a psychedelic baptism. Becoming the Admiral’s Wife is an alluring testimony of the author’s search to know God, and how she eventually finds Him in several dramatic encounters with Jesus Christ. By God’s mercy and grace, she unexpectedly meets a loving Christian man, a retired Rear Admiral, who is thirteen years her senior. The two fall in love, court, and marry. The book is called a dual memoir because chronological excerpts of his fast-track career in the early years of the nuclear Navy are sprinkled throughout. Their combined story illustrates the power of a Christ-centered marriage and inspires readers to patiently trust in God’s divine plan for their own lives.

In his memoir “Living the MIRACLES: A Sailor’s Life in the Nuclear Power Age,” author Albert Lee Kelln tracks his twenty-eight year Navy career in an easy-to-read manner. The book is designed to appeal to both young and old and inspires the reader to recognize how much a person can achieve, even if coming from modest means as Kelln did. He demonstrates the benefits of focused study and determination. After Naval Academy graduation, Al served in the Korean conflict aboard the surface ship USS Blue (two deployments) and the diesel submarine USS Ronquil. Recognizing Albert’s skill as an engineer and his understanding of physics, Admiral Hyman Rickover personally selected Kelln to enter the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Operators School where he graduated with a Master’s level education in nuclear physics and qualified to operate and maintain a Navy nuclear reactor. While serving on the Navy’s first nuclear attack submarine, the USS Skate, Kelln tells about his two deployments to the Arctic Ocean to gain knowledge of this ignored though vital military arena. These assignments were historic especially in the development phases of future missile-capable submarine operations. Kelln explains in his book that during these deployments, he became the first person ever to fly over the North Pole, pass under the ice at the North Pole (in a submarine), and actually stand on the ice at the North Pole, a record which still stands.

Suddenly, I found myself being sucked up toward the cargo bay doors, so I grabbed hold of the nearest steel tie ring on the floor. The tie rings looked to be about two inches in diameter. I struggled, trying not to get sucked up through the opening cargo bay doors. I was hit in the leg by a box, which almost made me lose my grip on the floor ring. I kicked the box away; it struck the floor and flew open. I looked inside and found what looked like a spacesuit. I grabbed it and put it on. Hopefully, I could get out of the cargo bay alive and catch a ride back to the ship even though I didn’t have that box. Putting the suit on without getting sucked out of the cargo bay doors was a major problem. I put my foot through a floor ring, anchoring myself to the floor. Struggling into the spacesuit, I found it was too tight. Working frantically, I took off my uniform and put the spacesuit back on. It was a tight fit, but it would work. I looked around for the helmet, and I did not see it anywhere. As I looked up toward the doors in the ceiling, I did notice something shiny. I focused on the shiny small object, which I fervently hoped was the helmet to the suit I was wearing.

An epic family saga that follows a legacy of faith, values and traditions passed down through seven generations of an African American family, Revelations takes readers on an emotional journey of 170 years filled with drama, suspense, trials, triumphs and tear-jerking events in the life stories recounted by five women from different generations: Claudia – an idealistic New York journalist is motivated in 2004 to investigate her family’s past when shocking 30-year-old secrets are exposed and threaten to disrupt her seemingly perfect family. Sarah – Claudia’s mother confesses to a history of manipulation and deceit rooted in tragic losses that compelled her to take charge of her life in 1963 at age 15. She entrusts Claudia with the private journals of family matriarchs from three prior generations. Juliette – Claudia’s great-great-grandmother must decide in 1885 at 17 whether to move North and easily pass for white or to live out her days as a Black woman in Mississippi. Bea – Claudia’s great-grandmother, Juliette’s daughter-in-law, is forced to flee Mississippi pregnant in 1916 to escape death at the hands of the Ku Klux Klan and to flee Ohio pregnant in 1919 to escape violence threatened by labor union organizers. Mary – Claudia’s grandmother, Bea’s daughter, born and raised in Michigan, faces harsh consequences in the 1940’s – ‘50’s for daring to think she should have the same options as men in managing her personal and professional life. Through their personal accounts, Claudia gleans their unique perspectives on America’s history and social evolution from 19th Century Mississippi to 21st Century New York. She easily relates to their stories as they address universal human needs, desires, goals and challenges that transcend time and location. Reflecting on the revelations of her ancestors’ narratives, Claudia discovers surprising truths about herself as she resolves to maintain peace in her family.

It came to her in a vision, a dream where she was in heaven and saw the term, “Amazing Grace”. The vision was so clear to author Roseline Turenne that she knew it was a message from God to write a book that conveyed this truth to readers of all faiths. Amazing Grace, Roseline’s nonfiction book, is a celebration of the love of God, captured in the way, the truth, and the life of His Son, Jesus Christ. The book focuses on introducing and/or confirming Jesus as personal Savior to readers, while also educating them on their identities in Christ and their roles as Christians in spreading the gospel to all. Roseline discusses the belief that God has a plan for each person’s life and that His promises never fail, no matter the obstacles to receive these blessings. A vision turned into a book, all to show favor from God.

When I was a child my desire was to become a beautician when I grew up. I did not stop thinking about it. One day, I went to Cosmetology school in Haiti to fulfill my dream. Unfortunately, I did not finish the course. I didn’t graduate, but I had the privilege to do the makeup for ladies and those of who were about to get married. I enjoyed it very much. When I came to the United States, I still had the desire to accomplish my dream… I went back to school…. I remember I was sitting in the room and I heard in my spirit “The Beauty of the Heart,” in French meaning “La Beauté du Coeur”. At that time, I used to write a lot of topics just to preach, whenever I had the opportunity to do so. I thought it was my next message to preach what I received from God. I did not understand the message God gave me, but the Holy Spirit said to me, “I don’t want you to do the outside beauty, but I want you to do the inside beauty”.
